Speech Title: A method of carbon fibers ultra-high temperature graphitization via laser tunnel furnace
Abstract: To overcome weaknesses like lower temperature and high energy consumption of traditional carbon fibers graphitization furnace, this research disclosed a new ultra-high temperature method of carbon fibers graphitization and invented a new ultra-high temperature laser tunnel graphitization furnace based on laser heating technique. The homemade PAN-based carbon fibers heated in a laser beam for continuously graphitizing by passing the laser tunnel graphitization furnace wherein filled with oxygen-containing atmosphere. According to the result about the surface chemical structure and microcrystal structure of carbon fibers which studied by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively, unordered carbon content and distance between crystal face (d002) decreased considerably and the crystal size was lager. As a result, a notable promotion of degree of graphitization of carbon fibers was proved. During the process, temperature of 3000 ℃ was successfully realized by changing laser parameters. We conclude that the feasibility of the equipment and method was testified and we can graphitize carbon fiber in a continuous and controllable way.
