Speech Title: A joint analysis on the influence of processing parameters on the electrical energy consumption and tribological performance of 316L stainless steel fabricated by selective laser melting
Abstract: Selective laser melting (SLM) is one type of additive manufacturing which produces metal parts by a layer-on-layer manner. Laser processing parameters control the laser energy absorbed by the materials which affect microstructure and further tribology performance. On the other hand, processing parameters control the electrical energy consumption during SLM process. The work aims at optimizing laser processing parameters which reduces electrical energy consumption and fabricates steel parts with acceptable tribological performance. Various combinations of processing parameters including laser power and exposure time was set up. The tribology performance including coefficient of friction and wear rate was measured by a pin-on-disc machine under both dry and lubricated conditions. The electrical energy consumption was measured using a wattmeter. A joint analysis was presented to develop the relation between energy consumption and tribology performance.
