About Xi’an technological University(西安工业大学)

Xi'an University of Technology(XATU) was established in 1955 and located in Xi'an, the ancient capital of the world's historic city. It’s one of the seven undergraduate universities directly under the Ministry of Weaponry Industry of the People's Republic of China ( the so called “seven soldiers”). It is also the only military supporting university for the country’s 156 key projects in the national "First Five-Year Plan". The school has formed its distinct characteristics in military and engineering disciplines. It has cultivated more than 110,000 senior specialized elites for the regional economy and the national defense industry.

   

The school covers an area of 1,200 acres, while the building area of the school building is 800,000 square meters. There are more than 1,800 faculty members, over 2,000 full-time Ph.D and master's degree students, and about 18,000 undergraduates with 54 majors. 3 Ph.D’s academic degrees and 15 master's degrees are authorized as first-level disciplines.

XATU has been always emphasizing on scientific and technological innovation. It has vigorously established the school system of “one school, three bodies “(colleges, key laboratories, and professional research institutions), and it has endeavored to build the national defense scientific research, national provincial Fundamental research, and applied technology based on cooperation with enterprises.



The school has achieved its own research merits and stable research teams in optical film technology, optical testing, optoelectronic devices and inspection, precision and ultra-precision machining and inspection technology, special processing, application research of composite materials and functional materials etc. Now XATU is engaged with thousands of projects at all levels from the National Fundamental Research, the General Armament Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Fund, the National Defense Industry and Technology Bureau etc.

         

The Weapons Museum is based on the traditional military culture of the school. It’s a learning, exchange, and discussion platform, as well as a vivid national defense education place which enables students to learn from practical and to enrich students’ knowledge of national defense science and technology.
